Minus 33 – Franconia Women’s Midweight Wool Bottom Review
It was a chilly morning when I exited my tent wearing the Minus 33 Franconia Women’s Midweight Wool Bottom underneath my hiking pants, but it wasn’t long before I felt the warmth of them. These 100% merino wool pants feel lightweight, but they worked effortlessly to keep me warm (a seemingly impossible ask).
As I mentioned in this review about the matching wool top, I used to camp with a 30-degree bag, but I was frequently cold at temps lower than 50. I recently got a 0-degree bag which I love, but I realized in Alaska that I woke up cold a few nights that were in the 40’s, despite having many layers on.
Last weekend, I went camping at Strawberry Lake for four nights, and I tried my new wool crew and bottoms each night. I admit that camping in the middle of August isn’t the best opportunity to test out a product in the cold, but temperatures were dropping into the low 40s each night, and I remained warm. I did sleep with an extra layer on top, but that’s far less material than my usual two on the bottom, five on top and a hat. So, I think it’s fair to say that the Minus 33 wool bottom was a success.
