Crete is the largest of the Greek islands, as well as being the fifth largest in the Mediterranean Sea. There is an excellent transport infrastructure, which includes three airports, ferry services and a large road network, which all make travelling to and around the island fairly easy. There are many places of interest to visit, ranging from museums and archaeological sites to attractive beaches.

There are numerous cultural and historical attractions in Crete, with the Lychnostatis Open Air Museum being one of the most popular. There are displays on nature, traditional life, art and technology, with highlights including gardens full of fruit trees and a stone farmhouse.

Other museums include the Historical Museum of Crete, the Maritime Museum of Crete and Chania Archaeological Museum.

If you are interested in the history of Crete, you may also enjoy a visit to the Palace of Knossos, this famous Minoan Palace is partly ruins, with some parts recreated to give visitors an idea of what it would have looked like originally.

Crete has many beautiful beaches, such as Elafonissi Beach, Balos Lagoon and Stalis Beach. You can swim in the turquoise waters, relax on the white sands or take part in some water sports.

If you enjoy wildlife and nature, you may also want to visit Samaria Gorge National Park. You can see the KriKri goat here, which is a protected species only found on the island of Crete. There are also numerous bird species, such as peregrine falcons, wood larks and pied flycatchers.

There is a lot to see and do in Crete, whether you enjoy relaxing on the beach, exploring archaeological sites or hiking through beautiful landscapes.
